History

In 1985, John Auersperg, Sr. along with his sons, John Jr. and Paul, founded Fortune Footwear Inc. and opened their first New York City showroom in the SoHo Building. This family-owned business began by importing flip-flops, slippers and casual footwear from Taiwan. As the sourcing strategy expanded into dress shoes, production eventually moved to China.

Each had their areas of expertise; John Auersperg, Sr. specialized in footwear sales and developed his fashion forward vision for private label product, John Jr. expanded the business into handbags, while Paul cultivated major catalogue accounts.

Together, they moved the company into a unique niche within the fashion industry.

There is one significant change from those early days, however. The Fortune Footwear showroom has moved from its SoHo beginnings to the Tribeca neighborhood of New York City.

Specification
Trends and innovation are important, but specification is key. We produce women’s footwear and handbags that meet your particular criteria.
We start by producing sketches and computer aided design concepts. This process allows us to customize products to meet your needs and to provide detailed instructions to sample room technicians.

Diversity
Unlike other companies, we don’t just offer one type of women’s shoe or one type of handbag. Fortune has a variety of product to choose from in synthetic or leather materials including:

Our design studio houses a library of over 200 lasts and heels along with the latest materials. In order to build this library, our team shops the market and travels far and wide to find the trims, components and materials to customize your product development.

We also connect with third party warehouses near major U.S. ports to handle cross docking, special projects, transportation and returns management.
